“If the only gift I get… is my introduction to Andrea Gauster, I will be a very content woman.” – Amanda Putz, CBC Radio 1.

Andrea has been singing and playing guitar since her youth in Peterborough, ON.  It wasn’t until 2007 that she tapped into her writing skills when asked to perform at her sister’s wedding.  Her first song “I knew” was born.  In 2008, as a grad student at The University of Toronto, Andrea met producer James Pew who saw in her something much more than she gave herself credit for.

Over a five month period beginning in February 2009, James and Andrea worked diligently at Toronto recording studio Euphonic Sound producing Andrea’s first EP, a six-song collection of new folk gems entitled Reverie.  July 6, 2009 marked the date for the release of Reverie which was celebrated with a CD Release Party in Toronto. With over 100 guests in attendance the night was a complete success.

Shortly after, Andrea released the holiday single “Christmas Without You” in November, 2009.  Both releases were received with great praise receiving Canadian radio play within the year.  Since then, Andrea has become an important addition to Ontario’s New Folk scene.  Among the steady stream of feature performances at Toronto venues like C’est What?, The Poor Alex, Graffiti’s, The Central, Bread & Circus etc. Andrea moved her way to eastern Ontario where she opened for the likes of Craig Cardiff and Peter Katz.

August 2010 marked the release of her 2nd (full length) album ‘We’re Not Lost’.  To celebrate the event, Andrea embarked on her first official tour across Eastern Canada (ON, QC, NB NS) which ended with a CD Release Party on August 26th at The Supermarket in Toronto.  The tour was such a success that she spent her next summer touring the West Coast building her fan base in Alberta and BC.  While living in Kingston, ON where Andrea attended medical school, she continued to tour eastern Ontario as much as her busy schedule allowed, writing new songs on a regular basis.

Andrea’s live show has the power to transport the audience of any venue to the unique world created by her beautiful voice and sophisticated heartfelt songs.  Andrea is a dedicated song-writer and performer with the power to motivate and inspire those around her… a very rare quality indeed.

After finishing medical school at Queen’s University in May 2013, Andrea moved back to Toronto where she is currently a family medicine resident at The University of Toronto.  Her long time dream of being a doctor coexists with her artistic side and true passion for music. The future looks bright for this young talent in both the medical and musical worlds.  If her hard work and productivity have shown us one thing, it’s that Andrea is no Barbie Girl. Don’t get it?
